Wellness tourism: the new frontier women power is set to conquer this year!

The wellness tourism sector is projected to see a major feminine push this year, with women
travellers rapidly moving to the forefront of the wellness industry. The shift is driven by the
growing demand for personalized health solutions, keenness to explore new ways to address
high levels of stress and the breaking of taboos around specific female health issues.

The surge of women wellness seekers is also set to reshape the sector with leading brands and
industry players slated to invest in research and products specifically tailored to the female
body and mind.

Sector experts said with women are seen increasingly prioritizing holistic health, mental well-
being, and self-care, the wellness tourism sector is anticipated to see a significant surge in
demand. The surge in women travellers is also expected to lead the industry through 2026
and beyond, driving a shift toward specialized, female-focused, and solo travel experiences,
they said.

The latest annual Future of Wellness report by the Global Wellness Summit (GWS) also listed 2026 as the ‘Year of Women’ among its four themes for this year. Major gender inequities in the multibillion-dollar wellness tourism markets will get corrected this year, the report said, adding that the “future is female”. “If the booming longevity market was built for men, women get their own lane in longevity,” the GWS report said. Because women age very differently, longevity will pivot to women’s healthspan, requiring a whole new longevity paradigm and diagnostics and interventions targeted for every life stage, it said.

The GWS report also predicted that with more and more younger taking into adventure travel, the demand for “tough” wellness such as hiking or athletic-focused travel will also see a major surge, rather than the hitherto trend of passive spa-only visits by women travelers.

Women-focused wellness initiatives to surge

The feminine push in wellness tourism is also triggering several changes in the sector, with industry players hurrying to come up with specialized initiatives designed for women, aimed at holistic health, hormonal management, and community-driven experiences, moving beyond general spa treatments.

Industry insiders said launch of specialized retreats designed for women in various life stages, particularly focusing on perimenopause and menopause management, is among a slew of new initiatives. The move also assumes added significance in the backdrop of estimates by industry bodies such as Global Wellness Institute that over 1 billion women globally be in menopause by the end of 2025. This is expected to create massive demand for tailored wellness retreats that address symptoms like brain fog and fatigue.

The industry is also shifting toward physiology-specific training, including cycle-informed programming and strength research tailored for women.

Fertility optimization and post-natal care – often in serene, natural settings – are also among the new women-focused initiatives. Specialised Retreats for these initiatives have already been either in operation or in the making by several leading industry players.

Besides, specific programmes designed for women to address stress, anxiety, and burnout through mindfulness, therapy, and emotional detoxing are also offered to cater to the new breed of female wellness-seeking travellers.

Women are increasingly seen seeking “painmoons” – retreats focused on emotional repair following life transitions like divorce, grief, or burnout. This is leading to a surge in demand for retreats that combine mental health, cognitive fitness, sector experts said. Industry insiders said sector players are responding with a significant increase in the supply of such retreats, some of them even offer “rage therapy” to release accumulated stress.

Surge in solo female travellers

Another major trend expected this year is a surge in the number of solo women travellers. Solo female travel, estimated to have seen a 37 percent rise in 2025 as per Atlys, the visa processing platform, is projected to see strong growth trends in 2026 and beyond. Sector experts said the surge reflects a broader trend towards empowerment and personal growth, with many women exploring new destinations independently.

Alongside, women are also increasingly seen choosing or designing small group journeys that provide safety, community, and “soft networking” with like-minded individuals. Sector experts said with solo and small-group female travellers expected to emerge as a dominant market segment, industry players are responding with initiatives focusing on safe, empowering environments that offer community and, in some cases, women-led, local, authentic experiences.

Industry players such as Mom’z, a retreat group supported by a network of expert doulas, midwives, and wellness professionals, are offering mothers-to-be to sign up for solo babymoon trips, the upcoming resort of Canyon Ranch, the leading US wellness player, in Texas, is reported to have a dedicated Women’s Collective that will address the needs of women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s and beyond.

Several hotels in leading wellness tourism destinations are also implementing a slew of special amenities for women wellness travellers such as floors accessible only by special passes, with female-only staff, including security guards and valets, arranging airport pickups and drops via female chauffeurs, and offering secluded villas or rooms with private entrances and open-air, but, screened living pavilions.

They are also offering active, and, specialized, wellness programmes, creating women-friendly social environments by designing communal lounge spaces and curated, group activities such as shared, sauna rituals or group yoga, and organizing, group nature walks and hiking trips. Many properties are also ensuring that female guests are serviced by female attendants, building trust and comfort.

Trend triggers female entrepreneurs in wellness tourism

The surge in feminine push in the sector is also triggering the entry of a new set of female entrepreneurs, including self-help groups, in the wellness tourism sector.

This shift is also leading to emergence of a new genre of tech – femtech.  Women are driving the growth of technology designed for their specific needs, moving beyond fertility to areas like hormonal health and menopause. Wearable tech such as smart bras for monitoring health, and tools to manage menopause symptoms are among the new innovative products which are already hitting major growth charts.
